Q. What is the New Jersey Census Look Up List? A. The NJ Census Look Up List is a Rootsweb mailing list where volunteers will do free Census look ups for you. Q. How do I subscribe to the list? A. Click on the link above to subscribe. You will see listings for look up lists in each state. Find NJ and then select which mode you would prefer, normal or digest. Then simply write only the word "subscribe" (minus the quotation marks) in both the subject heading and the body of the e-mail. Then within moments you will receive a welcome letter from the list that will explain in detail about the list including how and where to send your requests. Q. What is the difference between regular mode and digest mode? A. In regular mode you will be sent every e-mail that goes out to the list as soon as it is sent. In Digest mode you will get one e-mail approximately every 18 hours that contains every e-mail to the list within that 18 hour period. Most people subscribe in regular mode, but it is simply a matter of taste and you can easily switch from one mode to the other. |
It is important that you help the volunteers to help you. When requesting a look up it is crucial that you give the volunteers as much information as possible to work with. If you ask for something broad like "All Andersons in NJ" you are not going to get a response. Use the resources on the home page to help you get as much information as possible. It is your responsibility to find out what County a town is in and not the responsibility of the volunteers. |
